General Information
Deposits
We do not take any deposits until the puppies are born and we have reached you on the list. The deposit is $200 and is non-refundable (taken off total price).
Shortly after the puppies are born, I will begin allowing people to choose the puppy they want in the following order: (1) The Spaniel Garden reserves the right to keep any puppy from the litter (2) People on the waiting list. (3) General public
Puppies will not be held more than 12 hours without a deposit down. If you decide to get another puppy from the same litter instead, you will be charged a $25 fee for changing advertising, website, etc.
Waiting List
Anyone who is interested in a puppy can be placed on the waiting list. There is no cost to be on the waiting list. After a litter is born I will contact those on the list by order they contacted me. At that time they will be given the list of available puppies and have a short time to make a decision. They may either: (1) choose a puppy and put a non-refundable deposit down (2) decide to wait for another litter and maintain a higher pick order on the list (3) remove their name from the waiting list. There is no risk to be on the list but I do ask that if you decide not to get a puppy from The Spaniel Garden that you let me know promptly. That way those contemplating getting on the waiting list have a better idea what their chance is of getting a puppy.
Tails/Dewclaws
We currently do not dock tails or remove dewclaws. The AKC Standard for English Springer Spaniels allows for both docked and natural tails. A dog’s front dewclaw is often equated to a human’s thumb. While the dewclaw does not offer all the same benefits as the human thumb — it's not opposable! — it still has an important purpose. The front dewclaw has five tendons attached to it and plays a significant role when dogs are in motion. It helps a dog grip and manipulate items they are chewing on and helps some dogs get out of water. The dewclaw helps stabilize the carpus (the wrist) of the lead leg by touching the ground when a dog is in a gallop or canter. The dewclaw digs into the ground providing support to the limb when dogs turn. For this reason, dogs who compete in agility or other dog sports can benefit from having front dewclaws.
If you wish for your puppy to have its tail/ dewclaws removed the deposit is $300 (taken off total price) and I must know before it is two days old (I cannot guarantee this if you do not have first pick)
When you pick up your puppy
Puppies are ready for pick up at 8 weeks of age. If you have not contacted us by the time your puppy is 8 weeks old to make pickup arrangements we will assume that you are no longer able to get the puppy and your deposit will be forfeited and the puppy will be put back up for adoption. If for some reason you are unable to pick up the puppy at 8 weeks we will keep them free of charge until they are 9 weeks old. After 9 weeks we charge $15 per day plus any vet fees to keep them up to date on vaccines. All puppies will be up to date on vaccines, vet checked, microchipped, and wormed bi-weekly. All puppies are sent home with a Puppy Pack. The pack includes AKC registration paperwork, shot record, pedigree, a blanket with the mother’s scent, a small toy, and a food sample. We do ask that when you pick up your puppy, you leave any other dogs in the car as to not transmit any illnesses to the puppies. Final payment is due at the time you pick up your puppy in cash.
Health Guarantee
I guarantee your puppy against any life-threatening genetic defects for one year. Should your puppy develop a life-threatening genetic defect, it will have to be examined by my veterinarian (I will not pay for shipping/ vet fees.). If my veterinarian confirms the defect you have two options:
A full refund of the price of puppy
A free replacement puppy of equal or lesser value
Your Promise
These puppies are my family. If you choose to bring them into your home, understand it can be a 12-15 year relationship. When you adopt them, you are promising to give them your love for the rest of their life. You will give them plenty of food, proper veterinary care, a warm shelter from the weather and plenty of exercise. And most importantly, you will give them lots of love and attention. In the event you can no longer keep them, you must provide them with a wonderful new home. If you can not find one, I expect you will bring the dog back to me. If you have any doubts about your ability to provide this, please allow someone else to adopt them instead. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of a puppy to anyone.
